Buyer FAQ
Everything You Need to Know Before You Show Up
A pre-demolition sale happens before a property gets torn down or gutted. Instead of sending perfectly good materials to a dumpster, the owner works with Before U Demo to sell salvageable items directly to buyers — that's you.
Why does that matter? Because the materials coming out of these properties are often things you genuinely cannot find anywhere else. Original 1940s hardwood floors. Vintage fixtures that haven't been in production for decades. Full kitchen packages from high-end homes. Period trim and moulding that would cost a fortune to recreate. You're buying from the source, before anyone marks it up.
The best items go to people who show up first — and the people who show up first are the ones who knew about the sale in advance.
The most reliable way to stay ahead: subscribe to sale alerts using the form on this page or at the top. When a new sale is posted, subscribers hear about it before it's announced publicly. We include a preview of what's available so you can decide whether it's worth the trip before you commit.
You can also check the Upcoming Sales page and browse the BuD Marketplace for items listed between events.
Every sale is different — that's part of what makes them worth showing up for. The inventory depends entirely on the property, but here's what turns up regularly:
From residential homes: Original hardwood flooring, vintage and period-correct light fixtures, full kitchen packages (cabinets, appliances, countertops together), bathroom vanities and cast iron tubs, fireplace mantels, built-in shelving, interior doors and hardware, trim and molding, copper plumbing, stained glass, and mature landscaping.
From investment properties and gut rehabs: Higher-volume flooring, commercial-grade appliances, HVAC systems, water heaters, and architectural elements in larger quantities.
We post previews before each sale so you know roughly what to expect before you show up.
Come prepared to buy and remove in the same trip. Here's what we recommend:
Transportation: A truck, van, or trailer large enough to haul what you're hoping to find. If you're going after flooring, cabinets, or anything structural, bring a bigger vehicle than you think you need.
Tools: Basic disassembly tools — screwdrivers, a drill, a pry bar, moving straps. Buyers are responsible for disassembling and removing what they purchase, so come ready to do the work.
Help: Bring a friend or two for anything heavy. A second set of hands makes a big difference on flooring, vanities, and appliances.
Payment: Cash, card, and Venmo are typically accepted on-site. Confirm with the sale listing for specifics.
Prices are set by the Before U Demo team based on market value, condition, and demand — and they're intentionally priced to move. You're not paying retail, and you're not paying a reseller's markup. You're buying directly from the source at prices that reflect what the seller needs to clear the property, not what the same item would cost new.
That said, sales are managed events. Our Demo Pro is on-site and handles transactions. For high-value or specialty items, there may be some flexibility — but don't count on it and don't expect to haggle on everything. The value is already built into the price.
Yes — two ways. First, we post sale previews to subscribers and on the Upcoming Sales page before each event. These include descriptions and photos of what's available so you can plan your trip.
Second, the BuD Marketplace is an ongoing online store where items are listed between and after events. If you miss a sale or something didn't sell on-site, it may show up in the Marketplace. You can browse and purchase directly from there at any time.
On-site previews before the sale opens aren't typically available — access to the property is managed through the event itself.
Buyers are responsible for removing what they purchase, typically on the day of the sale or within a scheduled window. The timeline is set by the seller's demo or renovation schedule — there's a real deadline, and we enforce it.
For large or complex items (full kitchen pulls, flooring across multiple rooms, structural pieces), we do our best to coordinate removal windows that work for both the buyer and the property timeline. This is covered in the sale listing and confirmed on-site with the Demo Pro.
The short version: plan to remove same-day unless the listing states otherwise. Don't purchase something you can't get out on time.
All sales are final. Pre-demolition sales are clearance events — items are sold as-is, in the condition they're in at the time of the sale. We describe items accurately and post photos in advance, but we strongly encourage buyers to inspect anything in person before purchasing.
That said, our Demo Pros are on-site and straightforward. If something is significantly misrepresented or damaged in a way that wasn't disclosed, reach out and we'll work through it. We want buyers coming back to future sales — that only happens if the experience is honest.
Most Before U Demo sales accept cash, major credit and debit cards via Square, and Venmo. Specific payment options are confirmed in each sale listing — check before you show up so there are no surprises at the register.
For high-value purchases (flooring across an entire floor, full kitchen packages, HVAC systems), having cash or a card ready moves things faster on-site. Our Demo Pros handle transactions and can split purchases across items if needed.
Fair question. Here's the honest answer: the best sales fill up fast, and the best items within those sales go to people who showed up knowing what to expect. Subscribers get the preview — photos, item descriptions, and the sale date — before anything is posted publicly.
By the time a sale shows up on social media or gets shared around, the prime items are already spoken for by people who planned ahead. Subscribing is free, we don't send anything except sale alerts, and you can unsubscribe any time. There's no downside — and the upside is never being the person who finds out about the sale the day after.
What You Might Find
Every Sale Is Different. That's the Point.
No two pre-demo sales are alike. One might be a mid-century home loaded with original hardwood and vintage fixtures. The next could be a 1920s estate with architectural millwork and stained glass. What's consistent is that these are things you genuinely cannot find at a big-box store — and the prices reflect that.
